Motorist died in serious accident on N9, road closed due to storage of hazardous substances

In the serious accident that happened this afternoon on the N9 near Schagerbrug, a 31-year-old motorist from The Hague died. The N9 has been closed for the time being because the truck involved in the accident was transporting hazardous substances.

According to witnesses, it was a head-on collision between a passenger car and a tanker. Images showed earlier that the car was completely destroyed.

Several emergency services were called, including an air ambulance. It was canceled shortly after the call. It is unclear what happened to the truck driver.

The N9 will remain closed for the time being: the police are investigating and Rijkswaterstaat has announced that the investigation and clearing of the hazardous substances will certainly take until tonight. Traffic is diverted.

‘Death Road’

The N9 is a notorious road when it comes to serious accidents. Happen regularly (head-on) collisions resulting in injuries or fatalities. Rijkswaterstaat is working on a plan to make the road a little safer, but the million they have received for this is not enough to take really drastic measures.

The road has often been on the political agenda. In 2019, the CDA asked questions about road safety in the House of Representatives.
