– Milan

Third free practice session on the Austin track, home to the GP of the Americas, and Fabio Quartararo stands out: his Yamaha will not be the fastest bike of the lot on the straight, but the French world champion makes the most of it. In fact, his best time in FP3, in 2.02361, precedes two Ducatis: the GP21 of Enea Bastianini’s Gresini team, second at 59 thousandths, and the GP22 of Jack Miller’s factory team, third at 0.086. Good fourth Marc Marquez, at times prudent and at other times aggressive, who with the Honda collects 0.129 of lead. Completing the top five is Francesco Bagnaia, 0.260 behind with the red Ducati.

the top 10

The top 10 is completed by Pol Espargaro (Honda), sixth at 0.437; Joan Mir (Suzuki), seventh at 0.513 after also slipping; Takaaki Nakagami (Honda Lcr), eighth at 0.547; Luca Marini (Ducati VR46) on the rise and 0.560 from the top, and Aleix Espargaro, tenth at 0.636 with Aprilia, but first of the excluded in the combined times and therefore forced to go through Q1. Also slides for Jorge Martin, at turn 16, Darryn and Brad Binder, and Johann Zarco, at turn 2.

inside q2

These are the first ten who pass directly to Q2 for the combined times of the three sessions: Quartararo, Bastianini, Miller, Marc Marquez, Zarco, Bagnaia, Pol Espargaro, Mir, Nakagami and Marini. Excluding the two Aprilia, the four KTMs, Franco Morbidelli (14. in the combined) and, sensationally, Alex Rins, who yesterday was very competitive with Suzuki.
