Snow will cover most of Central Russia on the morning of January 9, leading expert of the Phobos weather center Yevgeny Tishkovets told RBC.
The weather on the last day of the New Year holidays will worsen. On Sunday morning, powerful snow clouds will be in the region of the Bryansk and Smolensk regions. By the middle of the day, snowfall will cover the center of Russia.
In Moscow, it will snow at 15:00, the heaviest snowfalls will begin at 18:00 and will last until 6:00 on January 10. Visibility will deteriorate to 1-3 km, disruptions in air traffic are likely, the number of accidents will increase, Tishkovets noted.
Forecasters predicted the weather will be warmer than normal in the first days of the year
The amount of precipitation from January 9 to 10 will rise to 8-13 mm, which is 25-30% of the monthly norm. According to the forecaster, this level is close to the record in 1960, when 10.2 mm of snow fell per day. The snowdrifts will grow from 28 to 33-36 cm, which is 10 cm more than the norm.
