More than last year! This is how many inhabitants the municipality of Zoetermeer has

Take a guess. How many inhabitants does the municipality of Zoetermeer have? Tip: there are more than at the beginning of 2022, according to research by Statistics Netherlands.

If you want to give every Zoetermeer a hand, you will be busy for a while. In December 2022, the municipality of Zoetermeer had 126,941 inhabitants. So a whole lot. And striking: that is slightly more than in January 2022. Then the municipality had 125,767 people. How many people will be allowed to call themselves residents of the municipality of Zoetermeer at the end of the year?

More Zoetermeers than ever

The municipality of Zoetermeer has therefore grown in population. How did that happen? This is mainly due to the number of people who moved to our city from another municipality and people who came to Zoetermeer from abroad. Between January and December 2022, 4,919 Dutch people moved to our city from other municipalities. On the other hand, there are 4,550 Zoetermeer residents who have left our city.

Last year, 1,124 people left for Zoetermeer from abroad. On the other hand, 470 Zoetermeer residents moved abroad. This means that 653 people continued to live in our city. In addition, 1,112 newborn Zoetermeertjes ensured that our population grew in 2022, compared to 961 deaths.

The rest of South Holland

Not only did the number of inhabitants increase in the municipality of Zoetermeer, other South Holland mayors also welcomed more and more new residents. As a result, the number of inhabitants of the whole of South Holland has risen sharply. In January 2022, our province still had 3,753,944 inhabitants, in December that was already 3,804,010 people.
