More than 40 dead in increasingly violent protests in Iran | Abroad

In Iran, at least 41 people have been killed in protests after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. This was reported by the Iranian national broadcaster IRIB on Sunday. The figure has not yet been officially confirmed.

The protest continued unabated on Saturday night, according to IRIB. Videos of protesters in Tehran and other parts of the country are circulating on social media. According to eyewitnesses in the capital, both security forces and protesters are becoming increasingly violent and gunshots are heard more and more.

Mahsa Amini, 22, was arrested on September 13 by the vice squad in Tehran for “wearing inappropriate clothing”. She died in hospital three days later. According to the Iranian authorities, she died of natural causes, but many people are less sure of that. In response to the death, massive protests erupted in Iran’s largest cities, hundreds of people have already been arrested.
