More shelters for Ukrainians in Echten

The municipality of De Wolden has approved plans to provide shelter to Ukrainian refugees at two locations in Echten. Rental agreements are being concluded for the conference center and group accommodation Het Bovenveen and for the manor House Huis in Echten. There will be room for 40 and 50 people respectively.

On September 26, the city council decided to receive more Ukrainian refugees. In addition to the 113 places already available, a total of 269 new places will be created.

Yesterday there was an information evening in Het Bovenveen for local residents. They received an explanation of the care plans and were able to ask questions and share their concerns. The residents’ responses will be included in the final decision, the municipality said.

Councilor Rudi Hooch Antink (Municipal Interests): “This is a national task. This concerns Ukrainian refugees, whom we want to receive as best as possible throughout the Netherlands.”

The Het Bovenveen conference center will remain available for meetings and conferences during the reception period.

The Huis te Echten estate has a new owner since this year, and hotel rooms and office spaces would be realized in this national monument. The estate was for sale after Koninklijke Visio moved to Hoogeveen. Royal Visio provided daytime activities for the blind and partially sighted.
