More vehicles were stolen in Brabant in 2024 than the year before. According to figures from the National Road Transport Agency (RDW), this happened 3,305 times last year. In 2023 there were slightly fewer: 3067. That is an increase of 7.8 percent. Eindhoven takes the cake, where by far the most cars were stolen. Brabant company cars also turned out to be popular.

The majority of stolen Brabant vehicles consist of passenger cars. A total of 1,278 cars were taken from private individuals throughout the province, which is 24.6 percent more than the previous year.

Mopeds and scooters follow next, which were 1,272, but six fewer than the number of passenger cars.

By far the most cars were stolen in Eindhoven. With 403 stolen cars, the City of Light is below leader Amsterdam, where a total of 522 cars were stolen. These more than four hundred declarations are a lot more than last year: the number has increased by 56 percent.

Please note: in smaller municipalities with fewer thefts, the percentage can be high. For example: In Baarle-Nassau the percentage increases by 200 percent, from two stolen cars in 2023 to 6 in 2024.

Eindhoven also takes the cake in the overall picture of all stolen vehicles. With 801 reports of theft, it leaves ‘number two’ Tilburg (339 stolen vehicles) far behind. The least was stolen in Alphen-Chaam and Hilvarenbeek. In both municipalities there were only four vehicles.

Sorted by category, the number of stolen Brabant commercial vehicles has increased most rapidly. There were 426 last year. In 2023 there were ‘only’ 306. The number of stolen mopeds and scooters has also decreased by just over ten percent.

Last year, 20,217 vehicles were stolen throughout the Netherlands. That is also an increase compared to 2023, but a very small one. In 2023, 19,999 vehicles were stolen, an increase of 1.1 percent.

Passenger cars from the brands Toyota, BMW and Volkswagen were stolen most often, although this number decreased considerably for Toyota cars.

Fewer cars were also recovered. Last year, an average of 44 percent of cars were recovered across the country. In 2023 this was still 47 percent.
