Under Armor and Marine Serre are going together: The US sportswear group and the French fashion brand are launching a joint capsule collection, as both companies announced on Tuesday. As Under Armor celebrates its 30th anniversary, this is the company’s first collaboration with another fashion brand.
The collection, which will be released on June 5th, takes up Under Armour’s sportswear archive from the 2000s and is particularly based on the central innovation of the base layer, i.e. the functional base layer. This foundation is complemented by Marine Serre’s perspective as a former professional tennis player and her signature “second skin” with moon motifs, which is a recurring element in her work. These influences create a collection that combines functionality and aesthetic standards and focuses on movement, body awareness and precision.
“Sport has always been part of my life. With Under Armor I wanted to explore the beauty of movement through pieces that combine performance, precision and aesthetics – starting with the base layer, the element closest to the body and the experience of athletes,” says Marine Serre, founder and creative director of the brand.
The joint collection is characterized by a deliberately reduced, sporty, functional design with clear black and white contrasts and the use of Under Armor’s HeatGear material. A specially developed print also combines the iconic trademarks of both brands, Marine Serre’s moon and Under Armour’s heartbeat logo, into a common symbol of discipline and progress. The collection is complemented by the new edition of the UA Proto Speed II sneaker from the late 2000s. The shoe combines its original, striking material structure with modern details such as leather elements and shared branding, combining nostalgia with a contemporary reinterpretation.
The capsule collection will initially appear on June 5th in the French designer’s online shop, in her stores and as part of a pop-up event in Paris from June 5th to 7th. The collection will then be available worldwide through Under Armor later this summer.
