Monster prices for tickets: Now Springsteen’s manager speaks

The discussion about the expensive concert tickets for Bruce Springsteen is entering the next round. After Ticketmaster prices rose to $5,000, it was met with heavy criticism. The online service defended itself. Since the majority of the tickets sold for less than $200, there was no problem.

Now Bruce Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau spoke up. He sided with Ticketmaster.

In an interview with the “New York Times”, Landau stated that before the tour, they had taken a close look at how high the prices were for other stars’ performances. “We have chosen prices that are lower than some but also higher than others.”

No problem with moon prices

So the manager argued just like Ticketmaster. “Regardless of the coverage of tickets costing $1,000 or more, our average prices are around $250.” In today’s world that is a “fair price” to see one of the “most important artists of his generation”.

There is still no statement from Bruce Springsteen, who had built up the image of a man of the people over the years.

Ruthless methods of competition

But how do concert tickets reach prices of up to 5,000 dollars? Ticketmaster speaks of “dynamic prices” on its website. This means that some cards are based on demand and can skyrocket quickly. So if many people want tickets, then the price can double or triple.

Ticketmaster has been repeatedly criticized for its working methods in recent years. Just earlier this year, the online giant was sued for “reckless competitive practices.” The group is also accused of anti-competitive behavior.
