The imminent mobilization of Not One Less in front of the National CongressThis year he found a climate of particular social unrest after the femicide of Agostina Vega, the 14-year-old teenager from Córdoba whose murder generated outrage throughout the country and once again placed gender violence at the center of the debate.

In this context, a heated television crossover between Monica Farro and Laura Ubfal on the LAM program on América TV, ended up amplifying the public discussion about femicides, violence statistics and the role of men and women within this problem. The controversy occurred during a debate on gender violence and sexist behavior. There, Farro questioned that the focus of the discussion was exclusively on male aggressors and maintained that there are also cases of violence committed by women.

“There are murderous women,” said the star during the exchange, while demanding that situations be made visible in which men are victims of female aggression. As revealed in the broadcast, the star mentioned statistics and studies on complaints of domestic violence suffered by men and maintained that these cases tend to receive less media attention.

The tension increased when Ubfal responded that femicides constitute a specific and structural phenomenon linked to violence against women. In the middle of the discussion, the entertainment journalist recalled Farro’s personal experience as a victim of violence and suggested that she should understand the dimension of the problem. The reference caused the Uruguayan’s discomfort and led to one of the most tense moments of the program. “Let’s talk to someone who understands,” Ubfal deployed.

The new Ni Una Menos march was called for this June 3 in front of the National Congress and in different cities of the country. The mobilization was born in 2015 after the crime of Chiara Paezthe 14-year-old teenager murdered in the Santa Fe town of Rufino by her boyfriend Manuel Mansilla 16 years old, who beat her to death and buried her body in the patio of a house. That case generated an unprecedented social reaction and gave rise to the movement that has since become the main expression of protest against sexist violence in Argentina.

Eleven years later, the murder of another teenager of the same age once again shocked the country. Agostina Vega disappeared on May 23 in the city of Córdoba and for several days she was intensively searched by security forces, family members and volunteers. Surveillance cameras recorded his entry into the home of Claudio Gabriel Barrelier33 years old, who maintained ties with the victim’s family environment and quickly became the main suspect.

After a week of searching, the dismembered remains of the teenager were found in a field in the Ampliación Ferreyra area. Preliminary autopsy reports indicated that the minor died from mechanical asphyxiation and that she had been a victim of sexual abuse. Based on these results, the Justice aggravated the accusation and framed the case as femicide, a crime that carries a penalty of life imprisonment.

Barrelier’s judicial situation was aggravated by recent antecedents. In 2025 he had been denounced by a 20-year-old girl for unlawful deprivation of liberty. According to the file reconstructed by local and national media, the victim managed to escape from the defendant’s home after being tied by the hands and feet. Neighbors reported seeing her leave naked and desperately ask for help. The accused was detained for approximately twenty days, but was later released after paying bail. The defense was led by the lawyer and former Peronist councilor Ricardo Moreno. This background became relevant again after the disappearance and subsequent murder of Vega, since it exposed previous warnings about violent behavior attributed to the accused.

The call for Not One Less This year will be crossed by the demand for justice by Agostina Vega and by the denunciation of feminist organizations about the persistence of femicides in Argentina. Various groups maintain that the case exposed flaws in the early search mechanisms and in the background evaluation of the main suspect. In this framework, the crime of the teenager from Córdoba became the symbol of a new mobilization that will seek to remember the victims of gender violence and renew a claim that began more than a decade ago with Chiara Paez and that, according to the organizing organizations, continues in force in the face of each new femicide that shocks the country.
