Mollet del Vallès will force dog owners to dilute their urine with water

The Plenary of Mollet del Vallès Town Hall (Barcelona) has approved, by a large majority, obliging dog owners to dilute their pets’ urine on public roads with water, the Valles council reported this Wednesday.

Municipal sources have indicated that the modification of the Responsible Pet Ownership Ordinance aims to improve the condition of public roads.

The measure will also make it mandatory for dog owners to carry a bottle of water every time they take their pet for a walk. One of the objectives is to reduce the deterioration that urine causes in the different elements of urban furniture, as well as the negative impact it generates in odors and dirt on the city streets.

Failure to comply with this regulation, which also includes the obligation to carry bags to collect feces, can lead to sanctions of between 80 and 300 euros. Likewise, the prohibition of pouring any substance on public roads that can be toxic for dogs, with penalties ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 euros.

The news also includes a change in the Cemetery regulations to allow dog access following the obligations included in the ordinance.

The ordinance will include the new concepts of the law, such as the prohibition of leaving a dog tied to the door of an establishment, leaving it inside a vehicle or leaving it alone at home for more than 24 hours.
