Hardly any player has influenced Liverpool FC in recent years as much as Mohamed Salah. Now his farewell is getting closer and closer.

Mohamed Salah has announced the end of his time at his long-time employer Liverpool FC in very clear words. The Egypt international’s contract expires in the summer. There has been speculation and discussion about a possible extension for weeks. But this now seems to be off the table – at least for the time being.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Reds’ top scorer initially answered the question of why it was more important to him to win the Premier League than the Champions League this year: “Probably because we didn’t win the ones we won We were able to celebrate the way we wanted.” Liverpool had to celebrate its last championship in England in 2020 under the restrictions of the corona pandemic. A clear downer in an extraordinary season under then coach Jürgen Klopp.

Following Salah’s assessment of the importance of another Premier League title for him, the 32-year-old then dropped the decisive sentence. Salah emphasized that it was “my last year at the club, so I want to do something special for the city.” A clear indication that he will leave Liverpool FC in the summer.

When asked by the reporter whether he really believed that this would be his last year in Liverpool, Salah then said: “So far, yes. There has been no progress in the last six months. We are far from any progress.” But he left a small back door open. “So we’ll have to wait and see,” he explained.

Salah and Liverpool FC are unchallenged at the top of the league table this season. The club is currently six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal FC and still has a game in hand. Salah is the key player in coach Arne Slot’s team. After 18 league games he has already scored 17 goals and prepared 13 more.

Salah has been under contract in Liverpool since 2017. Since then, he has not only been able to celebrate the 2020 league title with his team, but also the 2019 Champions League title as well as winning the 2020 World Cup and the 2020 European Super Cup, the 2022 FA Cup and the 2022 and 2024 League Cup. He was also top scorer three times in England.
