A green oasis has now emerged on the place where the Moerman Frères weaving mill and later school buildings were. The park wants to be more than a classic relaxation place. It is designed as an answer to urban challenges such as heat, drought and social insulation.
“The city can breathe here,” says Mayor Kris Declercq. “The Moermanpark shows that public space can connect, cool, inspire and protect. What we see today is the result of vision, cooperation and courage.”
The park offers space for everyone: from children to hikers playing. There are hiking trails, an adventurous playground, seating areas and smart lighting. At the same time, the park is a natural cooling place with 130 new trees, grass zones and water features.
