The right -back injured himself in training and fails for months. For Bremen, it is the next personnel setback in the season preparation.

Job news for Werder Bremen: Mitchell Weiser suffered a cruciate ligament tear in the right knee in training on Wednesday. The Bundesliga club announced this in the evening. The 31-year-old had complained about knee problems during the unit and was then examined by MRI-the diagnosis followed the same day.

“Such a message hurts all of us. It is human and sporty a blow for us. I’m really sorry for Mitch,” said Werder’s new coach Horst Steffen. “We will now do everything we can as a team and as a club so that he can get well again as soon as possible and can return to the team.”

For Steffen, who took over from second division club SV Elversberg in the summer, it is already the next failure of a key player. Marvin Ducksch had suffered a muscle injury in the calf right at the beginning of the preparation, Jens Stage was missing due to a stress reaction in the midfoot, Olivier Deman fails with an ankle injury for the time being.

With the long -term failure of Weiser, Werder loses an experienced regular player on the right – and one of the top performers of the past season. Weiser was the third best scorer at Werder with five goals and nine templates – behind the also injured stage (ten goals, five assists) and Ducksch (eight goals, nine templates).
