“Mission Impossible”: Next part with Tom Cruise postponed to 2025

The second part of “Dead Reckoning” can only be seen in cinemas from May 23, 2025. More information here.

The eighth part of the action espionage franchise, or the second part of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” (German cinema release: July 13, 2023), was originally scheduled for 2024. Now Paramount and Skydance have postponed the film starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt to May 23, 2025.

The “Mission Impossible” actors are on strike

In mid-July 2023, production of the second part was interrupted for the promo phase of the first part of “Dead Reckoning”. To do this, Tom Cruise and other actors should promote the film worldwide. However, all actors have not yet returned to set for the sequel. The reason for this is the SAG-AFTRA strike, in which the “Mission Impossible” ensemble also takes part.

Many Hollywood stars are taking part in the SAG-AFTRA strike. Due to inflation, they are demanding an adjustment to their fees and new rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the industry. Even though screenwriters have now reached an agreement with studios and streaming platforms on this matter and have been back to work since the end of September, things are different for actors. They are currently still in negotiations and are therefore still on strike. If the strike is not resolved in the next few weeks, other works in addition to the “Mission Impossible” film will also have to be postponed.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part 1” grossed around $567.7 million worldwide. As IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise tries to save the world from being conquered by a new type of AI weapon in this part of the series.
