Happy from the foxes: A four-week-old puppy that dragged himself along the roadside in Schönfflies (Mühlenbecker Land) on Easter Monday was brought to safety by wildlife rescuers.

“He was very exhausted, suffered from lack of fluids and could hardly walk. If he had gotten onto the street, that would have been his death,” says animal emergency helper Sanny Giese (45), who went out with her husband Steven (43) after an emergency call (0162 / 317 71 77) and found the animal on the country road.

At their “sanctuary” in Wensickendorf/Oranienburg, the rescuers provided the young red fox with oxygen, food and liquid, christened it “Monday”.

Having regained his strength, he was moved to a fox sanctuary. “There he will be fed up with three or four other little ones for the next 10-12 weeks and finally released into the wild,” says Steve Giese.

Does the red rascal come from the litter of fox mom Maxi, who died cruelly on Easter Sunday? “Possibly, the two places are only 400 meters as the crow flies. But it can’t really be determined,” say the Gieses. They are happy that Monday will soon be free to roam the woods again.
