The World Athletics Federation has made public the theft of 1.5 million euros. As World Athletics announced, two former employees and a former consultant systematically defrauded the association of this sum over a period of several years.

One of the employees left the association before the offense was discovered, and the contracts of the other two were terminated after an internal investigation. The cases were reported to the authorities. World Association President Sebastian Coe was determined to use all the financially necessary resources to ensure that the full rigor of the law was applied.

“Too many organizations sweep incidents like this under the carpet,” said the 69-year-old Brit. Employment relationships would be terminated with limited information, allowing perpetrators to continue their work in other organizations. “We are not that type of organization,” Coe said. “It’s not pleasant, but it’s important that we do the right thing.”
