In October 2021, a US court sentenced him to life in prison for 21-year-old murder.
The jury found 78-year-old Durst guilty back in mid-September 2021. Under California law, those guilty of murder in special circumstances can be sentenced to either death or life imprisonment. The Los Angeles prosecutor’s office did not demand the execution of Durst, since the state introduced a moratorium on the death penalty.
