Lionel Messi (35) has provided another milestone in football history. The Argentine scored twice, including an overhead kick, and set up Neymar’s opener in Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-0 win at Clermont Foot on Matchday 1. The seven-time world footballer thus cracked the mark of 1,000 scorer points at club level – i.e. goals and assists added. Messi now has 684 goals and 318 assists in 812 games for PSG and FC Barcelona.
Including games for Argentina, he had long since cleared the 1,000-scorer hurdle – like his eternal rival in such statistics, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 37-year-old Portuguese has a hand in 902 goals in 929 games (692 goals/217 assists) at club level.
