Milan, winning the Europa League brings in another 40 million

It is a rough estimate considering all the parameters: UEFA prizes, market pool, box office and participation in the European Super Cup. Over 60 have already arrived from this year’s Champions League

If you don’t want to get hurt, it’s advisable to avoid revisiting Leao’s unfortunate heel against Newcastle, Chukwueze’s sound sleep in Dortmund or… the inconsistent penalty called against PSG at the end at St. James’ Park. All episodes that could have changed the Rossoneri’s fortunes in the Champions League group, and now we would definitely be talking about other scenarios. Sporty, but also economical. It is well known that the Champions League and Europa League are the offspring of Serie A and Serie B in financial terms. To understand the proportions: this season the UEFA prize money for the Champions League is 2 billion, that of the Europa League 465 million. Less than a quarter.

the budget smiles

Given this, it is certainly true that Milan will close the ’23-24 European campaign with decidedly lower earnings than last year: reaching the Champions League semi-final had brought in almost 130 million, including all items. A very robust injection – which went beyond even the wildest expectations – which significantly contributed to the plus sign in the balance sheet, which has returned to the fore after seventeen years. But it is equally true that the plate was still sufficiently rich: participation in the group stage – including UEFA prizes, market pool/historical ranking, box office, results and commercial activities – in fact guaranteed around 65 million. Now we need to squeeze as much as possible out of the Europa League. The revenues of which are divided as follows: half a million for access to these playoffs, 1.2 million for the passage to the round of 16, 1.8 for the quarterfinals, 2.8 for the semi-finals, 4.6 for the final and 4 for who raises the cup. Potential total 14.9 million, to which add the market pool (minimum 5 million), qualification for the European Super Cup (3.5 million) and box office receipts, which are difficult to quantify at the moment.

enthusiasm

It is obvious that the yardstick cannot be the 9.1 million taken home a year ago for the round of 16 of the Champions League with Tottenham, but if Milan goes ahead in the tournament, think from the perspective of 3 million per match (a go up), is legitimate. Tomorrow against Rennes, meanwhile, even if it is only a playoff, for example 66 thousand spectators are expected. The enthusiasm is there, the club is enjoying it and in the meantime hopes that the flow of money, albeit smaller, will continue. With a clear projection, considering all the parameters at play, lifting the trophy in Dublin could bring in around forty million.
