In the total disaster of Reggio Emilia, only he was saved. Strahinja Pavlovic was the only Rossoneri to emerge from the report cards unscathed: among many 4,5 and 5, the Serbian earned a 6 which says a lot. “One of the few always with character”, was our opinion. And it’s nothing new. Throughout the season we saw several other matches in which Strahinja stood out for the spirit that many of his teammates lacked. “Ah, if everyone had his approach…”, is the most recurring comment from fans on social media. All true. While in the squad there are people evidently condemned to eternal dawdling, fighting with their own ghosts or victims of nervous breakdowns (for each of these categories, the names are easy to understand), there are also those who fight without giving up an inch and try – unfortunately mostly in vain – to set an example for the group.

Pavlovic is, in objective terms, the player who has recorded the greatest coefficient of improvement this year. The raw and poorly positioned defender from his first months at the Rossoneri has become much more tactically aware (of course, the margins for growth are still evident) and has begun to educate his feet with reasonable profit. Under pressure the svirgolato can arrive but, when he decides to break free, he exhibits a bearing that you don’t expect. Allegri did an excellent job with him, increasing not only his defensive solidity, but transforming him into an unsuspected raider. The numbers speak clearly. Four goals and one assist this season, and pay attention to his playing time (2,948′): he is the most used outfield player of the entire squad.

Improvements so evident and figures so eye-catching that they obviously go unnoticed. Pavlovic has admirers especially in the Premier League. Crystal Palace moved first to understand any room for maneuver and United’s concrete interest should also be noted. Milan paid him 18.5 million (plus bonuses) to Salzburg in the summer of two years ago and now values him at around 40. In reality, even in a context where no one is untransferable due to status, the Devil has no intention of depriving him. The Serbian is unanimously considered one of those to start from next season and he has an excellent relationship with Allegri. If anything, the reflections revolve around the usual noose: the scenario could change if the Champions League does not arrive. At that point Pavlovic would become one of the most attractive capital gains for the Rossoneri coffers and could end up on the list of expendables.
