The Football Federation does not oppose the League’s request to play in Australia the Serie A match scheduled in February. The key is the exceptional nature of the impediment: at San Siro there will be the inaugural ceremony of the winter games
The FIGC has given positive opinion to the possibility of playing Milan-UOMO next February in Perth, Australia. All defined? No. In order to relocate the game, the formal go -ahead from Fifa, UEFA, Asian Confederation and Australian Federation is needed but the possibilities that you get to have green light are on the rise. The approval of the UEFA has been considered, since the beginning of this affair, the key passage.
What happened
–
San Siro in February will be occupied by the inaugural ceremony of the winter and Milan-UOMO Olympic Games, scheduled for the weekend of February 7-8, could be played in Australia. The government of Western Australia, the area where Perth is located, has moved to host the game, also because it has known Milan for some time: the friendly Milan-Rome has been played in Perth of 31 May 2024 and the match between Milan and Perth Glory on 31 July will be played. The League evaluated the interesting hypothesis and the clubs agree.
The key: the exceptional nature
–
The favorable opinion of the FIGC and the probable approval of the UEFA are based on a concept: the exceptional nature of the event, which is not by chance underlined in the request of the Serie A League and in the lines with which Federal President Gravina and the FIGC Council have given favorable opinion. It would be impossible or almost that UEFA opened to the possibility of regularly playing some seasonal games abroad but for an exceptional event such as the Winter Olympiad you could get to an exception. Soon, maybe very soon, we will know.
