AC Milan’s negative streak continues
Defending champions AC Milan lost the Derby della Madonnina to city rivals Inter in Italian Serie A and were therefore unable to stop the negative series. Milan lost 1-0 (0-1) on Sunday evening and are already waiting for a win in seven competitive games. Argentinian world champion Lautaro Martínez scored the decisive goal in the 34th minute.
Second in the table, Inter now sit five points ahead of Milan, who remain sixth in the Champions League after suffering their third straight league defeat. Sovereign table leader is still the SSC Napoli. The 3-0 (0-0) win at Spezia Calcio on Sunday puts them 13 points ahead of Inter.
At the Derby della Madonnina, Milan Skriniar (27) was again in the starting XI after a yellow-red suspension, but without the captain’s armband. This was withdrawn from him by those responsible for Inter. “There are common values that need to be shared. If that’s not the case, you can’t wear the captain’s armband,” said CEO Giuseppe Marotta after the game.
Skriniar recently announced his decision to leave the Nerazzurri for PSG for the coming season on a free transfer. The central defender is said to have already signed a preliminary contract with the Parisians. “It is the right of the player and his agent to negotiate the right terms,” continued Marotta, who also stressed that he had the “greatest respect” for Skriniar. The decision was “not a penalty, but you have to share values.” Goalscorer Martínez wore the captain’s armband against Milan in the absence of keeper Samir Handanovic (38).
