MTV’s longtime journalist Mika Tommola, 65, is retiring.
Tommola, known as the “ultimate relief man”, tells about it on Instagram.
– I know how to make a good lightening, it was my job for more than 30 years. This piece is top notch; its genre, script, rhythm, editing, image choices and spike, (artificial intelligence), Tommola writes on Instagram.
The video published on Instagram contains clips from Tommola’s career. The video was made by Tommola’s colleagues.
– Now I can retire, thanks friends, let’s call, Tommola writes.
Agree on retirement
MTV had change negotiations this fall. Tommola told Iltalehte in October that he had time to agree on his retirement schedule with the company earlier, so the negotiations do not concern him.
– I will leave relieved when my time is up, but the date is not public information, I’m sorry, he told Iltalehte in a message.
Tommola hopes that Schibsted, the new owner of MTV, would also like a change in the management ladder of news delivery.
– There is a lack of a person who has a vision for the future of television. You can find such types, if nothing else, from Schibsted in Norway.
Verdict for assaults
Mika Tommola left the TV screen last year after it was revealed that he was accused of assaulting his wife twice.
He returned to work after a three-month hiatus to become MTV’s corresponding editor-in-chief Tomi Einonen according to “normal TV reporter jobs”.
In October 2024, Tommola was fined for two assaults on his wife. The wife was also fined for abusing Tommola.
The verdict remained final, as neither party appealed the decision.
The Helsinki district court sentenced Tommola to a 60-day fine, which made his income 3,240 euros.
Tommola’s wife, on the other hand, had scratched her husband during disputes. The district court sentenced the wife to a 40-day fine, which made a total of 1,800 euros.
