FOOTBALL – Vivianne Miedema has shot the Arsenal women to the main tournament of the Champions League at the expense of Ajax. The Hoogeveense made the 0-1 just after the break, which turned out to be the decisive goal after ninety minutes of play at De Toekomst sports park in Amsterdam.
Because the first leg ended in 2-2, the narrow victory for Miedema and her teammates was enough to qualify for the European cup tournament.
Orange’s all-time top scorer (95 goals in 115 international matches) struck after Ajax lost the ball on a throw-in. Miedema was given the space to shoot from something outside the penalty area. She kicked the ball with her right foot hard and low over the wet grass in the corner past the Amsterdam goalkeeper.
The final of the European cup tournament for women will take place on 3 or 4 June 2023 in the Philips stadium of PSV in Eindhoven.
