Market value at Spurs almost doubled

Tottenham Hotspur is once again one of the top teams in the Premier League this season under Thomas Frank and is in third place in the table after nine matchdays. The reason for this is, among other things, the strong defense led by former Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven, who conceded only seven goals, and who received high praise from his coach on Monday.

“I’m very happy with Micky. I think he’s done great things for the club since he signed and has developed further this season,” said Frank before the EFL Cup game against Newcastle United. “He’s defending even better. He’s still very good on the ball and has now scored goals, which I’m very happy about.” This season, the 24-year-old Dutchman has already scored three Premier League goals, making him Spurs’ top goalscorer along with attacker Richarlison (28).

In the summer of 2023, Tottenham paid 40 million euros for van de Ven after he had made a rapid development in two years at VfL. Its market value at the time was 30 million euros and has now almost doubled – to 55 million euros. In the Premier League, only five defenders are rated higher.

The Tottenham professional’s achievements will sooner or later attract interested parties. But Frank is relaxed about the contract, which runs until 2029 and does not contain an exit clause. “As far as I know, we have a good contract with him. I definitely see him as a player with a big future at the club. I think he’s happy here, that’s very important. And we’re happy with him, so we’ll be surprised by what the future holds.”
