On Monday, August 4, a message appeared on social media about Van Wely. As a result, it was established that there was cross -border behavior on the night of July 31 on 1 August of this year.
Van Wely has the Code of Conduct for the Mediahuis, which states that employees have to be professionally and businesslike to relationships, violated by having a sexually tinted chat with a source. With this gross violation, he does not meet the norms and values that De Telegraaf expects from his journalists, as determined in the code of conduct and he damages the reputation of his employer.
The decision made now follows agreements made in February 2022 with Van Wely. Even then there was cross -border behavior. As a result, a package of measures was taken and Van Wely was able to resume his activities under strict conditions and after meeting those measures. The new violation will put an end to that.
Van Wely acknowledges having made a mistake and may come back to it later.
