Mick van Wely back on TV after misconduct: ‘I’ve been stupid’

Mick van Wely has returned to television after a break of more than seven months. De Telegraaf journalist turned up last night in the talk show Khalid & Sophie. “I’ve done stupid things.”

It caused a huge surprise in February: crime journalist Mick van Wely of De Telegraaf was suddenly put on hold because of transgressive behaviour. And that while he had written extensively about the misconduct of Ali B and Marco Borsato and also talked about it on television.

Mick back on TV

Now, after more than seven months, Mick is back on television. The journalist probably deliberately chose to start in the lee, because he sat down yesterday in the relatively poorly viewed Khalid & Sophie.

Host Khalid Kasem: “Mick, we haven’t seen you on TV for a while. How are you?”

Mick: “Yes, it’s going well. I’ve been out for a while. I’ve done stupid things and I was suspended for that. I then apologized for that and I want to do that publicly again.”

Life after mistakes

Mick doesn’t want to dwell on it too much, though. “There is also a life after mistakes and I’ve been back to work for a few months now. I have now also resumed my radio and TV work. I learned a lot and now we move on.”

Khalid: “Now let’s move on, yes. De Telegraaf has you again ehhh… You have been back to work since April, so we’re going to keep it at that, at your work as a crime reporter.”
