MIA has released her seventh studio album “MI7” via her own label OHMNIMUSIC. The record contains seven songs that were created in seven different locations – each over a period of seven days per location – and feat. the American gospel group Sunday Service.

MI7 was written and recorded in Ethiopia, Egypt, India, the United Kingdom, Greece and Australia, as well as in the United States at Rick Rubin’s Shangri La Studio. The album’s structure is based on the seven trumpets from the Revelation of John, each announcing a biblical judgment before clearing the way for the next song.

According to a press release, the album concept emerged as “a vision that was revealed before the recording process began and that had to be followed.” Also included is the already released single “Everything”.

Returning after four years

MIA’s last album, “MATA”, was released in 2022. ROLLING STONE wrote in a review: “Her sixth studio album reaches into the past while simultaneously reconnecting with the zeitgeist in a different way. … Yes, MIA is still here – but it remains unclear whether she still has anything new to say.”
