Othman is still temporarily staying in De Kindervriend, where the infrastructure is fully adapted to his care needs. “He is a sweet boy who needs a lot of exercise, but he also needs a lot of structure and safety,” says supervisor Nathalie Dekimpe. “His room is secured, and the area outside is also closed to prevent him from hurting himself.”
Two days a week, Othman sleeps at home with his mother Filsan Ige, together with his younger brothers and sisters. But that’s tough. “We love him very much, but it is difficult. He cannot live at home, it is dangerous for him,” she says emotionally. “There must be a solution by January.”
