Status: 10/30/2022 10:43 p.m

World champion Max Verstappen does not give up. The Dutchman also won the Mexican Grand Prix and set a Formula 1 record. Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher ended up far behind.

In Mexico City, Verstappen secured his 14th victory on Sunday (October 30th, 2022) in the 20th race of the season. No Formula 1 driver has ever achieved more victories in one season. Second place went to Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) ahead of Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull car.

“14 wins, what a season,” Verstappen radioed to his crew after crossing the finish line. Schumacher (2004) and Vettel (2013) each had 13 victories in their best years. However, due to the different number of races in one year, the records are only comparable to a limited extent. In 2004 there were 18 races, in 2013 there were 19, the current season ends after 22 races in Abu Dhabi.

Vettel and Schumacher defeated

Perez moved up to second in the Drivers’ Championship with his podium finish. Verstappen was already known as the old and new world champion. There was nothing to gain for the German pilots this time. Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) in 14th and Mick Schumacher im Haas in 16th were both lapped.

The last two races of the Formula 1 season will take place on November 13th in Brazil and on November 20th in Abu Dhabi.
