Mexican city turns off water tap due to extreme drought | NOW

The northern Mexican city of Monterrey is imposing strict restrictions on its residents to conserve water because of the extreme drought. About 5.3 million people will soon have access to running water only between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The state in which Monterrey is located, Nuevo León, has been struggling with water shortages due to the high temperatures of recent times. The mercury has regularly risen above 40 degrees since February. Very little rain is expected in the coming days.

A state of emergency applies throughout the state.

Due to the drought, the taps were already turned off in several places in Monterrey. The city is an important business center of Mexico and is also home to a lot of industry.
