Mexican boxer Álvarez retains his world titles

Mexican boxing star Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez retains his four world super middleweight titles. lvarez, 32, defeated his Kazakh rival Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas on points.

The two boxers faced each other in the ring for the third time. In September 2017, a first game ended in a draw, a year later Álvarez was the best.

For Álvarez, the win was a boost after losing a match for the second time in his career in May. That was against Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol. His first defeat was in 2013 against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. For 40-year-old Golovkin, it was only his second defeat in 45 matches. Only Álvarez, who is world champion in the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF federations, has managed to beat him so far.
