Updated on December 6, 2025 – 10:58 p.mReading time: 6 minutes

A dream final in the MLS: Inter Miami CF met Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the final – with Lionel Messi against Thomas Müller. It was a thrilling duel for the title.
Thomas Müller missed out on the hoped-for championship title in Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Vancouver Whitecaps in a duel with “GOAT” Lionel Messi. The Canadians around the former German national player unfortunately lost the dream final against Inter Miami around world champion Messi 1:3 (0:1). Müller missed out on the 36th title of his career in his debut season in Canada.
An own goal from Whitecaps defender Edier Ocampo (8th) and goals from Rodrigo de Paul (71st) and Tadeo Allende (90th + 6) on assists from Messi sealed the bitter defeat. In Fort Lauderdale/Florida, Vancouver dominated the game for a long time and had good chances, but was unable to take advantage of them, with the exception of Ali Ahmed’s equalizer (60′). For Miami, which has been participating in the MLS since the 2020 season, it is the first championship title in the club’s young history.
The game to read in the ticker:
90th minute of play +7 – Final whistle in Fort Lauderdale. Inter Miami are MLS champions for the first time. In the end, Lionel Messi’s team deserved to win this game. Thomas Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps were too naive, too vulnerable in the crucial moments – and paid the price for their lack of experience. The star ensemble around the Argentinian, on the other hand, took advantage of their chances in an ice-cold manner.
90th minute of play +6 – That’s the decision! Miami increases to 3:1. Jordi Alba hits a long ball from his own half straight to Messi, who takes the ball as only he can take such a ball – and sends Tadeo Allende through the Vancouver defense. He then only has Takaoka in front of him and hits the far corner.
90th minute of play +4 – There’s hardly anything going on near Vancouver anymore. The Canadians have a lot of possession, but just can’t find the gap. Significant: Miami can break free, Messi wants to start in the center circle – and is held on by Berhalter.
90th minute of play – Seven minutes are replayed.
90th minute of play – Both teams are now preparing for injury time: Sabbi goes down at Vancover, Jayden Nelson comes on, Miami replaces Ian Fray for Marcelo Weigandt.
88th minute of the game – Miami does this cleverly in this phase, often disrupting the Canadians’ attacking efforts at the halfway line.
