Berlin (dpa -AfX) – Chancellor Friedrich Merz received the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in Berlin. Selenskyj was welcomed with military honor at noon at the Federal Chancellery.

According to government spokesman Stefan Kornelius, a visit to the Ukrainian head of state will be about the German support of Ukraine and the efforts for an armistice.

After talking to Merz, a lunch is planned, a joint press conference is planned for the early afternoon. In the afternoon, Selenskyj will also meet with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for a conversation in Bellevue Castle.

Several media had previously reported on the visit. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Selenskyj’s traveling abroad has hardly been communicated from security considerations. The Ukrainian head of state was last in June and October 2024 in Berlin./Vee/dp/jha
