Meryl Streep capitulates to the confusing Grammy categories

Together with musician and producer Mark Ronson, Meryl Streep presented the award for “Recording of the Year” at the 66th Grammys. What was supposed to be an easy task ultimately turned out to be a real challenge for the actress. At the same time, with her openly displayed confusion, she also brought light into the category darkness for viewers.

Chaos over Grammy categories

When Streep was supposed to present the award on stage with her son-in-law (he is dating her daughter Grace Gummer), things got chaotic. She wanted to award the artist “Best Album of the Year”. But Ronson quickly corrected her, pointing out that together at that moment they were honoring a single song and not an entire record – after all, their category would be called Record of the Year.

The actress then frowned and asked Mark Ronson why, according to this logic, there would even be a separate “Song of the Year” category, whereupon the 48-year-old explained to her that “Song of the Year” focuses on songwriters and that “ Recording of the Year” artists, producers and engineers would also receive their honor.

The 74-year-old actress slowly understood what it was about and dealt directly with Mark Ronson. Since he wasn’t able to win the “Song of the Year” trophy together with Dua Lipa for their track “Dance the Night”, she said with a grin: “Oh, that’s the one you lost.” Before Ronson pointed her out When he kissed her cheek, he simply replied to her swipe: “Yes, thank you!”

In the end, he won Miley Cyrus the award for “Recording of the Year” with her song “Flowers”.
