The 23-year-old skater from Edam had previously finished third in the 1500 meters with a personal record: 1.55.85. She was third going into the last distance, the 5000 meters.
It soon became clear that the battle would be between Beune and Conijn. It remained incredibly exciting until the last round, but Beune came out on top. For example, the Edam woman did not win her second National Championship title after winning earlier in 2022.
Thanks to her second place behind Beune, Conijn has qualified for the European All-round Championships, which will be held in Thialf on January 11 and 12.
