Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti has extended his lead in Formula 2. The 21-year-old Dane won the sprint race in Barcelona. The Prema driver quickly took the lead after the start on a wet track and then dictated what happened.
Vesti’s closest pursuer, the Frenchman Theo Pourchaire, who was sponsored by Sauber, tried to limit the damage with second place: The ART driver is now six points behind Vesti in the drivers’ standings. Formula 3 champion Victor Martins (France/ART), in whom Alpine has high hopes, completed the podium.
On Sunday (11:25 a.m. / Sky) the main race is still on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. German drivers are not represented in Formula 2 this year, which Mick Schumacher won in 2020.
