The Haveltermade district in Meppel will have a Cruyff Court and a 3×3 basketball court. They will replace a playing field that already has goals and baskets.
Young people in the neighborhood have long wanted a Cruyff Court. The current field is used a lot and needs to be replaced. “It is a central place in the neighborhood that is frequently visited, so not everyone can always go there,” the municipality writes. “By redesigning the current kicking field into a Cruyff Court and expanding it with a 3×3 basketball court, more children can exercise and play sports,” the municipality writes.
A Cruyff Court is a small football field with artificial grass. It is a project of the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which was founded by former footballer Johan Cruijff. This foundation tries to get as many children as possible to exercise. “It offers space for movement, and for social development, meeting and strengthening the neighborhood,” adds councilor Alfred Peterson (D66).
