With the campaign the men are breaking a taboo. “Because sexual misconduct only stops when we talk about it,” says Yuri Cornelisse. “It is time to speak out, hold each other accountable and create a culture of respect together.”
Daniël Streep of Poppodium Victorie is the initiator of the campaign. She has often experienced inappropriate behavior and called on men to speak out.
“I’m talking to so many men tonight who don’t realize how unsafe women can feel,” says Daniële. “This awareness is the beginning and hopefully more women will soon dare to speak out without being ashamed of it.”
Example for other cities or towns
One of the participants is councilor Christian Schouten. The city manager thinks that you can make a big difference with simple things. “For example, with something as simple as lighting in tunnels. That is easy to adjust,” says Schouten. “Certainly the friend of the most beautiful friend and father of the sweetest daughter, I believe that everything you can do, you should do.”
