Meijer trainer of NEC for a year longer

Trainer Rogier Meijer has extended his contract with NEC for one year. The coach is now fixed until June 30, 2023 at the Eredivisie club from Nijmegen.

Meijer has been the head coach of NEC since the summer of 2019. Last season he promoted with the team via the play-offs to the Eredivisie. There, NEC is currently in tenth position with 32 points from 27 games.

“I am proud of this contract extension and I look forward to being in front of the group next season,” Meijer said. “In the coming weeks and months we will continue to build on the selection, with the aim of becoming and remaining a stable Eredivisie club. First of all, by maintaining ourselves this season and if possible looking further upwards. I would like to be part of that project .”

Technical director Ted van Leeuwen is satisfied with the coach. “He brought NEC to the Eredivisie and showed himself excellently in a year in which we had to deal with many setbacks. For continuity, it is important that we take the next step with a trainer who has been associated with the club for years. Rogier has experienced the laying of the foundation and actively contributed to it. A football season is a new project every year. We are very confident that he is also the right man in the right place for the second phase.”

Van Leeuwen says that the contract has been extended by one year at the request of both parties. “It can always be extended again, but this is in the future. In the present we are concentrating on successfully completing this competition,” says the technical director, who still calls maintenance in the Eredivisie the main goal.
