TVIn the first episode of ‘Boer zkt Vrouw’ we were introduced to ‘Cowboy’ William (25) from Westerlo last Sunday, and he must have known that. Not only did the more than 80 ladies present fall into a swoon, watching Flanders was also impressed by the handsome farmer. Time for an introductory meeting, we think. We spoke to William about his television adventure, dating life, international rodeo ambitions and his best friend Maxine. “I just got out of a serious three-year relationship.”
In the first episode of ‘Boer zkt Vrouw’, Flanders finally got to see the identity of farmer William Junior Dougan, together with the many singles. No fewer than 80 singles came to his ranch in Westerlo. “The women gradually got to know me well,” the farmer tells TV Familie. William did not know that so many girls had registered. “The program makers had not told me that in advance. I have never really had many dates. That’s why I was so nervous about my ‘show’ to the single ladies, especially when it turned out that there were so many.”

Farmer William was immediately liked by their bachelors and the viewing public. “Wow, that William is really handsome!” it sounded several times in the episode. “For some it may have been a bit disappointing”, William looks back critically. “But it’s not that I’ve had that in my head. I mean: I am who I am. I can only be myself.” William eventually chose ten women with whom he sees a possible future. Soon we will see how he gets to know the chosen ladies even better. Yet the hunk of ‘Boer zkt Vrouw’ is a rookie when it comes to relationships. “I’ve been in a serious relationship for three years. After that I didn’t really look for love anymore. Although I was open to it.”

Competition?
The mainstay during William’s adventure is his best friend Maxine, the daughter of Paul Michiels from Soulsister. The two grew up together. “Maxine was my playmate. And she later worked at the ranch. For example, she taught Kevin Janssens for his role as a cowboy in the movie ‘Savage State’. Maxine and I can share everything.” Still, William’s future should not be jealous. “There was never any love between us. Maxine is not a competition.”
According to Maxine, William’s future should also fully support his lifestyle, something the farmer confirms. “I couldn’t give up my current lifestyle. Although in a relationship you have to make compromises. That’s the only way to make something beautiful out of it.”

Not a typical farmer
Although he participates in ‘Farmer Seeks Woman’, William is not really a farmer in the literal sense of the word. He and his father run a ranch with horses and bulls, and they do rodeo there. “I see that as a lifestyle. And I wear that cowboy hat every day. Of course also at our legendary western parties: parties are often organized in our café. Dad started the ranch in 1980 with my grandfather. I was born and raised on the ranch, and I still live with my father today. And soon maybe with a woman there. By the way, our ranch was used for recordings of the second season of ‘Undercover’ with Tom Waes.”
Farmer William is therefore fully involved in rodeo and also has international ambitions. “As a child I played football for a while, until the blood crept where it couldn’t go. In the meantime, I am performing at European level. It’s a dream to make it in America as a rodeo rider.” And in addition to the labels farmer and horse rider, he also gets the title of model. “I regularly do photo shoots for clothing brands and some fashion shows. I see that as a nice perk. But a woman would be an even nicer extra in my life.”
