Medical emergency overshadows FC Barcelona victory

A medical emergency in the stands overshadowed FC Barcelona’s fourth win of the season at FC Cadiz on Saturday night.

With the score of 2-0 for the Catalans, the dress rehearsal three days before Barcelona’s Champions League duel at Bayern Munich had to be interrupted for almost an hour, in the end Robert Lewandowski and Co. won 4-0 (0-0).

Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma even threw a defibrillator in the stands. The players of both teams stayed on the pitch for a total of almost 20 minutes before they were sent to the cabins by the referee. It didn’t start until 9:05 p.m.

World footballer Robert Lewandowski scored his sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute. The Pole was only substituted on in the 57th minute. Frenkie de Jong (55′) had previously given the guests the lead, Ansu Fati (86′) and Ousmane Dembélé (90’+2) increased after the break.

With 13 points, Barca initially took the lead from Real Madrid (12). The record champions are only in action against Real Mallorca on Sunday (2 p.m. / DAZN).

Cadiz have now lost their five opening games, conceding 13 goals. From the starting line-up of Barca in the 5-1 win over Viktoria Pilsen in the Champions League opener last Wednesday, coach Xavi only called up goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and de Jong in the starting eleven.
