Because the government outsources tasks, the influence of external advisers is growing. What does this mean for the future of public administration? The proliferation of consultants at the Dutch government is the result of a management culture that has driven out professionals and replaced by managers. But the more knowledge is outsourced, the weaker and dependent the government itself. The last TV episode of Backlight Looking for the ideological vision behind the massive hiring of consultants. What happens if a ministry itself no longer has enough knowledge? And can we also strengthen the government so that it is able to take control of the large tasks of our time? The episode ‘The consultant rules’ was made in collaboration with Theatergroep De Verleiders. With their performance BUIDSCH SCHOT they expose the relationship between government and consultant in a satirical way.

Cut-up TV preachers
The cult series The Righteous Gemstones Stopped excellent seasons last week after four excellent seasons. A good time for people who have not yet looked to start with bings. The series of and with Danny McBride Is about television preachers trying to earn money everywhere. On television, the Gemstone family presents itself as the perfect family that never committed a sin. But behind the scenes they have the stupidest quarrels with each other, cocaine is sniffed and they end up in shootings with competing television preachers. In the fourth and final season they may seem to realize that they should finally behave a little more decent. Also with a starring role for Walton Goggins (also to be seen this year in The White Lotus).

Beautiful and very French game
The sultry Gustave and empathic Sophie go together once more to a celebration on the water. Then a mythical being paints something in the distance. The projected number 34 disappears from heaven, a new 33 is drawn. All residents of that age disappear – including Sophie. Gustave goes to battle against the being. A visual and musical crushing journey in a doomed world, inspired by the Belle Époque. Beautifully finished with very strategic fights where good reflexes are a must. Done in the Japanese role -playing style (walking around, interspersed with a fighting system where you have to put on turns), but by a French game company that pumps its culture through all capillaries. The Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs alone are worth it.

Mahler’s return
Gustav Mahler, played by actor Gijs Scholten van Aschat, returns once in his beloved Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. At the request of NPO Klassiek, he presents his broadcast from the Spiegelzaal that morning live A good morning with. In his own way, he leads the listener past music that has formed and inspired him. This broadcast is part of the Mahlerfestival, which takes place from 8 to 18 May. 105 years after the first Mahler party, orchestras from all over the world come together in Amsterdam for a grand trib.
Every evening there is a symphony of Mahler, broadcast live from the Concertgebouw. The series started on May 9 with the first symphony, tonight the second is on the program and so it will continue until the final concert on May 18.
