In the summer of 2021, Ibrahima Konaté moved from RB Leipzig to Liverpool FC for around 40 million euros, with whom he won the English championship and the FA Cup, among other things. After five years, the Frenchman’s time with the Reds is coming to an end. Konaté should forego an extension of his expiring contract and look for a new adventure. Apparently FC Bayern is also knocking.
After 183 competitive games in the Liverpool FC uniform, Ibrahima Konaté is about to say goodbye to Anfield Road. This is reported by “L’Équipe”, “talkSPORT” and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, among others.
Accordingly, the Reds and the 27-year-old defender could not agree on a new working paper. “There will be no agreement,” the French sports newspaper quoted a “close confidant” of the player as saying in clear terms. The decisive factors were the rather chaotic season and the late qualification for the Champions League, which made early planning difficult.
Although everything pointed to an extension in April, Konaté will now turn his back on Liverpool FC. It is still unclear where the national player will go. Some top clubs are said to have already made intensive efforts to recruit Konaté.
Rumors about a move to FC Bayern are not new
“L’Équipe” specifically names FC Chelsea, Real Madrid and FC Bayern. The Royals are said to have been in contact with Konaté “for a long time” and FC Bayern have at least “expressed interest”.
Rumors about Konaté’s involvement on Säbener Strasse have been rife in the past.
At the end of November 2025, Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund was even confronted with the speculation at a PK, but avoided it: “We are totally concentrating on our players at the moment,” said the Austrian at the time.
At this point, Dayot Upamecano had not yet extended his contract in Munich. This has now happened and the situation has changed significantly. Basically, the German record champions have a strong defensive center with Upamecano and Jonathan Tah, and Konaté is unlikely to be interested in a backup role.
