Meat substitute McDonald’s gets a permanent place on the menu | Cooking & Eating

The McPlant is not vegetarian or vegan. Because there is cheddar cheese on the burger, the vegan stamp is not possible. The burger itself is completely plant-based, but during preparation the McPlant may come into contact with beef. That is why the vegetarian label does not fit, explains a spokeswoman for McDonald’s.

McDonald’s is collaborating with Beyond Meat for the production of the plant-based burger. McDonald’s is not the first fast food chain to focus on plant-based. For example, competitor Burger King has the Veggie Whopper.

McDonald’s also introduced the McPlant in Austria, Denmark and Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Citizens are already on the map in the United States.
