At swimming pool Zidewinde in Sprang-Capelle there will be quite a few fewer bombs this summer. The technical installation is too old, so that the water can become cloudy too quickly. And if the soil is no longer visible, that is dangerous. That is why it has now been decided not to receive more than 750 swimmers in the coming swimming season at the same time.

Such a new technical installation is expensive. The College of the municipality of Waalwijk now has a proposal to the city council to invest 1.9 million. “This makes the technical installation future -proof again,” says the municipality.

The outdated machine can no longer handle a packed outdoor swimming pool. Due to the sweating sunscreen of swimmers, the water becomes dirty and cloudy. And if the water becomes cloudy, the lifeguard can no longer see what is happening on the bottom of the bath. 750 guests a day is therefore the max. To monitor that, e-tickets are entered.

“We want our residents to be able to swim safely and want to keep the swimming pool open to the public,” says alderman Timon Klerx about it. “This solution ensures for this, even if we have to disappoint people on hot days.”

No guarantee
According to the municipality, limiting access is important for safety and it reduces the chance of a complete closure of the bath. Nevertheless, the measures are not a guarantee that the bath can remain open anyway, the weather and pollution in the area can still make the bath dirty quickly.

With turbid water, the real swimming fans must be patient, it takes three days before the swimming pool is clean again. Last year the pool had ten days the entire season on which more than 750 visitors came to bathe.
