‘Maxime Meiland still seems to back down in defamation case’

Maxime Meiland seems to be backing down in the defamation case filed against her, says Evert Santegoeds. “It looks like they are talking to each other after all.”

The man who is accused of rape by Maxime Meiland in all kinds of books – without reporting and so far without evidence – is well fed up with the reality star. He has decided to file summary proceedings against her and it was actually supposed to be filed next Friday, but now that has suddenly been postponed until February 16. So a month later.

Shot in the case

It is striking because summary proceedings are intended as an emergency procedure, but that hasty character has now been removed. What is going on? “I think both parties are talking to each other. Both suddenly don’t want to say anything anymore,” says Evert Santegoeds, editor-in-chief of Privé, in the podcast Strictly Private.

Maxime seems to be backing down, according to Evert. “They have both asked for it to be postponed for a month, so I think there is some progress to be made to avoid having to play it all out in court.”

Resolve mutually

The man accused by Maxime previously gave her the opportunity to resolve the matter mutually, but then demanded that her book be withdrawn from the market, a correction in De Telegraaf and compensation for all material and immaterial damage. Will she still change tack now?

Maxime will pinch him, says Evert. “Look, a mistake has clearly been made by the makers of the book, they realize it, although they will not say it out loud and thus admit their guilt, but if a settlement can be reached, then what will happen? must be corrected at some point.”

In The Hague

And that doesn’t work? “Then you can still go to court, because I believe a new date is scheduled for February 18 in The Hague. Yes, then they try to solve that anyway…”
