Maxim Dekker operated on, AZ defender out for at least a month

AZ defender Maxim Dekker is out of circulation for at least a month. The 18-year-old talent of the Alkmaarders successfully operated on his knee today.

The football player from Rijsenhout hit last Saturday in the duel against FC Utrecht (5-5) injured. The central defender has suffered a tear in his meniscus. Dekker had to be replaced by Zinho Vanheusden just before the break.

Due to Dekker’s injury, AZ is very tight in the central defenders. Earlier this month, Sam Beukema also injured his knee. Bruno Martins Indi has been out for quite some time, but the veteran is expected back in March. AZ has announced that it will no longer enter the transfer market for a defender. On paper, only Pantelis Hatzidiakos and Zinho Vanheusden are the only two central defenders in the selection. Riechedly Bazoer is also still seen as an option in the heart of the defense.

AZ presented a new player today. Sven Mijnans comes over from Sparta to strengthen the midfield.
