Max Verstappen: ‘That action tore the car open and broken’ | Motorsport

The reigning world champion in Formula 1 was unable to do much at the Silverstone circuit, as he spent most of the race with a broken bottom of his Red Bull and therefore was unable to reach top speed.

“When I got out I looked under the floor and everything was off. The left side was completely torn,” the Dutchman said viaplay† “It was because of a piece of carbon that was suddenly in turn five. The moment I saw it I couldn’t go left or right and so I tried to hit it as straight as possible, but unfortunately the bottom tore open all the way. In these cars, the floor is extremely important for the downforce. With such a tear you lose your balance and you lose a lot of time.”

Verstappen saw his championship lead over Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc decrease from 49 to 43 points. Sergio Perez, his teammate at Red Bull, is now a bigger competitor, 34 points behind.
